Ramesh Pillai is Group Managing Director of Friday Concepts (International) and Chairman of the Board of Governors of the International Institute of Enterprise Risk Practitioners (IERP®), where he also serves as Chief Examiner.
With 40 years of experience in enterprise risk management, governance, compliance and business continuity, he is recognised globally as a pioneer in ERM and in the implementation of ISO 31000, ISO 31050, ISO 31004, ISO 31100 and ISO 22301. His work experience and exposure encompasses the United Kingdom, United States, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Australia, Zimbabwe, Hong Kong and Bahrain, across both conventional and Islamic financial institutions as well as corporate non-Financial Institutions as well as Public Sector Organisations, including experience in Capital Markets.
He is an experienced International Board Director and is a former nominee director for a regional central bank. His board experience includes chairing Risk Management, Investment and Audit Committees and on Nomination, Remuneration, and Collaboration/Governance Committees.
Ramesh has built enterprise risk and governance frameworks for central banks, federal agencies, development banks and multinational groups — including establishing an ASEAN country's deposit insurance agency and delivering World Bank-sponsored ERM training to banks in Vietnam. His specialist areas include ERM, GRC, strategic risk, compliance management systems, cybersecurity, fraud risk and AML/CFT, Third Part Risk Management (TPRM), Sustainability, Technology Risk Management and Non-Financial Risk Management. He is also an expert resource on transformation programs (for FIs and Non FIs) and on implementation of core systems (e.g. core banking, finance, AML CFT, etc).
A Fellow of the ICAEW and the Malaysian Institute of Accountants, he is a former Chief Risk Officer, a fellow of the Malaysian Institute of Corporate Directors, a former Regional Director of GARP, and was instrumental in founding the Malaysian chapter of PRMIA. He is an adjunct professor of Enterprise Risk Management on an international MBA programme, is head of the IERP®’s ERM faculty and a named risk management resource for the Qatar Investment Authority.
Ramesh publishes and speaks regularly on enterprise risk management, corporate governance and corporate restructuring at national, regional and international forums, and is currently writing a book on Enterprise Risk Management. He is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International.
